About my Corvette

The car is a 1979 L82 Sports
Ever since I saw my first Vette in Texas in 1980, I have always dreamed of owning one. I was on an exchange tour with the US Army in Fort Bliss Texas and saw a red Vette very much like the one I now own rumbling down the main street in El Passo, what a cool car! I bought mine after leaving the army in 1998.

Taken at a show in Bovington 2002

  Reliability??
Reliable and older Vettes are not words that sit together comfortably! In the first year I had:
* Leaking brake seals
* Leaking coolant pipes
* Leaking valve covers (just about leaking everything)
* Oh and the auto transmission failed, lost all forward drive and had to reverse home - that was interesting!
Over the last few years I have spent more than I care to think about, but it now runs really well, and is very fast - as several boy racers have discovered!

Often though it is as much fun to wave them past, they get so annoyed realising that the only reason you haven't risen to the challenge is because there is no challenge!!

Stuff I have added
Amongst the bits I have added since owning the car, the best was a genuine police siren. Great when someone cuts you up, quick wail or yelp and the effect is amazing, often had cars pull over - obviously looking for the cop car. So much better than just seathing with rage and not being able to do anything!

Also changed the reg number, got a plate that has the year of the car, 1979, as you can see on the pic on the right

Main work done
Apart from the auto trasmission being rebuilt, I have had the following work done over the last few years:
1. Complete respray
2. Engine stripped and rebuilt, new valves etc
3. Free flow exhaust
4. Rear spoiler
5. High voltage ignition system
6. Polished aluminium valve covers
7. New seat covers (fitted myself, never again!!)
8. High intensity driving lights, sealed beam lamps are just rubbish
9. Replaced the old 8 track with a fairly decent stereo

On the driveway
Looking shiny after a good polish, new driving lights added

Driveway again
Fitted these smoked rear lamp covers, gives the back a sleek look
